OpenClaw’s OpenAI Embrace Stirs an Old Question About Open Source

The integration with OpenAI, he has indicated, reflects user demand rather than employer pressure. Whether the community believes him will show up in contributions, in forks and in the quiet decisions of developers who choose where to spend their evenings. In open source, trust is the one dependency that cannot be pinned to a version number. The OpenClaw case will be watched as a model — or a warning — for how the open-source world handles the companies that now employ its best people. Either way, the conversation is only beginning.
